The Tap Mode story

REIMAGINING TAP.

A teaching program built to make tap feel current, engaging and worth staying with.

Why it exists

KEEP THE FOUNDATIONS. FIND NEW ENERGY.

Tap is a fundamental dance form. Yet many studio owners know how hard it can be to keep classes fresh while maintaining technique and a clear standard across teachers. Tap Mode brings those needs together in one progressive program.

It pairs structured exercises and routines with original Soundmoda music and teaching resources so studios can give tap the place it deserves.

Built by a teacher for teachers

A PROGRAM THAT WORKS IN A REAL STUDIO.

Mitch Hicks developed Tap Mode to create a consistent, engaging approach across his own studios, then grew it into a syllabus other studio owners and teachers could use. The aim remains practical: make it easier to deliver strong tap classes that students love.

What drives us

ENGAGE. ENERGISE. EXCEL.

A tap program should make students want to return, give teachers the tools to lead with confidence, and make progress visible. These three principles shape every level of Tap Mode.

01 / For the students

Engage

Tap comes alive when students hear what they can create together. Original Soundmoda music, achievable challenges and connected routines give each class a sense of purpose beyond repeating steps. As students find the beat, build friendships and hear their own improvement, there is a reason to look forward to the next class.

02 / For the teachers

Energise

Teachers do their best work when they can focus on the room, instead of piecing together exercises and music before every class. Demonstration and explanation videos, class tracks and a clear level sequence help them prepare. That structure leaves space for their own teaching style and the energy that makes a class memorable.

03 / For their progress

Excel

Students need to know where their hard work is taking them. The pathway grows from Pre 1 to Level 10, with routines from Level 1 onward and optional examinations to mark milestones. Technique, musicality and performance develop together, while each achievement points towards what they can learn next.

Credibility in practice

GROWING WITH STUDIOS.

In 2025, 52 studios participated in Tap Mode examinations, including 26 new examination studios. Together, 269 students were assessed. The optional exam pathway is one way studios make that progress visible.
